EBAC Shooting Club
EBAC SHOOTING SPORTS FAQ:
What kind of shooting do we do?
Our main activity is to compete in the New London County Pistol League (NLCPL).
This is indoor, small bore, 50 foot competition similar to national match rules. There are 10 teams in the league so there are both home and away matches every Monday evening from September through late March. Practices are irregularly scheduled on Thursday evenings at our home range, which is the Groton Sportsman's Club range.
Years ago there were skeet, small bore rifle and high power rifle activities as well, but I don't currently have enough people interested. These could start up again, but would need some "volunteerism".
Do I have to qualify for the team and show up every week?
No minimum score is required. All safe shooters are welcome.
Scores from everyone who competes are recorded for individual awards at the year-end banquet, but only the top five scores from each team are used to decide which team wins the match.
Participation in the league is easy since you are not obligated to compete every week. Practices are optional (but recommended) and you can start anytime during the season.
Do I need my own gun?
Yes, and a permit to carry it to the range. EBAC does not supply individual equipment, only paper targets and range rental for home matches and practice.
How much does it cost?
EBAC is $2 a year, the shooting club fee is $15/year (don't forget to sign the insurance waiver while you are at the EBAC office) and the NLCPL has a yearly shooters fee of $40. You can spend a lot on equipment, but many start off (and continue to score well) with simpler target pistols in the $300 range. You will also need your own eye and ear protection, and your own ammunition (30 rounds per match plus practice).
What time Mondays?
Matches start at about 7:30PM. The cut-off for sign in is 9:00PM. Competitors can leave right after they shoot, but I do appreciate the volunteers who stay to help score targets and sweep up the range. Unless there is a large turn-out, we are usually done just after 10:00PM.
Prospective team members are welcome to come to a practice or a match to see how it all works. The other team members and I would be glad to answer your questions.
