Mike Coughlin is the recipient of the 2008 O.P. Robinson
Award for the outstanding Varsity Athlete of the Year. Mike has been an
integral member of the EBAC Men’s Varsity Ice Hockey team since joining the
team for the 2008 season. He is an excellent two-way hockey player with
tremendous hockey sense and a knack for scoring goals. In his first year on
the team, he netted an eye-popping 35 goals and added 11 assists for a total
of 46 points in leading the EBAC Men’s Varsity Ice Hockey team to a 1st
Place Regular Season finish and the 2008 League Championship & the team’s
3rd straight Playoff Championship.
In addition to EBAC Men’s Varsity Ice Hockey, Mike also played outfield for
the Men’s EBAC Varsity Softball team. During the 2008 season, Mike either
led his team or was near the top in every offensive category, including Home
Runs, RBI’s, extra base hits, and batting average. He also managed to hit
for the cycle (single, double, triple and home run in the same game). On
defense, he proved to be an excellent outfielder, possessing speed, an
excellent glove, and a strong arm. Mike helped his team finish 3rd out of 18
teams in both the Regular Season and Playoffs.
In addition to his tremendous on-ice and on-field accomplishments, Mike has
proven to be a very unselfish teammate who is respectful of his opponents.
His impeccable character, good sportsmanship and “down to earth” demeanor
make him the consummate teammate. Through his extraordinary athletic
accomplishments and his off-field demeanor, Mike has proven to be a worthy
ambassador of the EBAC as well and certainly a worthy recipient of the O.P.
Robinson Award.
In Mike’s free time he works on his newly purchased house in New London and
is pursuing his Masters in System Engineering at WPI. Other activities he
enjoy’s is Fishing, Camping, Boating, Skiing and mostly all of the outdoor
activities.
