Mike Coughlin is the recipient of the 2008 Walter J.
Harvey Award for the outstanding Inter-Departmental Athlete of the Year.
Mike played in both the EBAC Inter-Departmental Softball and Floor Hockey.
In the EBAC Inter-departmental Softball league, he played for Par Four in
the B Division. Over the 2008 season, Mike helped lead his team to an
impressive 16-4 record and a 1st Place Regular Season finish. During the
course of the season, he amassed some extremely impressive offensive
statistics as well. In fact, Mike led the B Division in Home Runs (14),
RBI’s (56), Doubles (11), Runs (35), and Slugging Percentage (1.741), and
finished the season with an impressive .648 Batting Average.
In the EBAC Inter-Departmental Floor Hockey, Mike helped his team, Dano’s
Red Storm to a 2nd place regular season finish in the A Division. In doing
so he lead the league in scoring, netting 20 goals and adding 7 assists for
27 total points. As a result of his efforts, Mike received league Rookie of
the Year honors for the 2008 season.
In addition to his tremendous on-ice and on-field accomplishments, Mike has
proven to be a very unselfish teammate who is respectful of his opponents.
His impeccable character, good sportsmanship and “down to earth” demeanor
make him the consummate teammate. Through his extraordinary athletic
accomplishments and his off-field demeanor, Mike has proven to be a worthy
ambassador of the EBAC as well and certainly a worthy recipient of the
Walter J. Harvey Award.
In Mike’s free time he works on his newly purchased house in New London and
is pursuing his Masters in System Engineering at WPI. Other activities he
enjoy’s is Fishing, Camping, Boating, Skiing and mostly all of the outdoor
activities.
